About the Artist
More than one ever wanted to know
about Loran Elizabeth

Loran has been drawing and painting since she was a child. Adopted at birth by loving - though not artistically inclined - parents, she took it upon herself to do what came naturally. Among other odd ventures as a youngster, Loran oil-painted flowers on Michelob bottles (her parent’s, of course) and sold them around the neighborhood for a bit of pocket money. She was - and still is - always doing something creative.
Loran Conley's style is mainly that of a realist, at times dabbling in impressionism, often mixing it all up on the same canvas. Although most of her work is done in oils, sometimes she will use acrylics. To most viewers however, the difference in any finished piece is imperceptible, even in one of her murals. Her recent works in The Quantum Relationship Series can easily be either medium. You’d have to ask her what she used, because one really can’t tell by looking.

Loran is also an avid gardener, musician, writer, and photographer. Her works that seem to portray images of flowers and such are derived from her own photos taken in her own gardens. Being now retired from Verizon, Loran is pleased to devote her time and abilities to self-creation and teaching, as well as outwardly furthering other’s personal appreciation for, and hopefully public support of, the arts.
Ms. Conley is an involved co-op member and the sitting President of Riverside Artists Gallery in Marietta , Ohio , where her work is on display. She is an active member of the Complein Aire Painters (a group of loosely-knit artists of The Mid-Ohio Valley ). She has paintings and glass works in private homes in several states, and in addition to actually being a juror of other’s works, Loran's own work has been granted several primary awards, in various juried shows.

To note the glass works on this website, Loran had been doing original stained glass until August, ‘08, when, at an outdoor glass show, a huge gust of wind came by and blew over a very large rack which held many of her works and those of two other artists. 5 seconds later every piece of her work was broken to bits, while none of the other's were. Hundreds of hours of labor just wasted. Upon seeing that, she thought, "Geez, …to think that I have paintings that I did 40 years ago and they still look like new."
Rather than cry, she sat and gathered a lesson: for several years past, her efforts and focus had been divided between stained glass and painting - and it was that moment that she decided there was a Message in this occurrence. It was, "Focus on what she alone can do, i.e., her painting." She still loves to teach others the art of stained glass, ever grateful for the opportunity to inspire others to their own inner creativity, wherever it can be found and to wherever it leads them.
